I am not thrilled about the current Russian pairs, though I feel there is a chance I may like Mukhortova-Trankov if Vasiliev is able to work his magic with
them, like he did with T&M.
Somehow I just don't like Kawaguchi-Smirnov that much. They are sort of OK.
I heard that Ushakova-Karev have split.
We won't see Bazarova-Larianov for at least two years because he failed the drug test. They were the only young Russian pair I liked.
I have heard a few more names of Russian pairs but never had a chance to watch them, so I will reserve my opinion on them.
I am clinging to the slim hope that Obertas & Slavnov may return to competition this year, and make the Russian world team. Not that I like them, but at least they are at the senior world level.
Who would have thought Russian pairs skating would drop to such a low level? I certainly did not, even in 2006. I always thought they had skaters waiting in the wings.
The favorites for the OGM in 2010 will be Savchenko-Szolkowy who I don't care for, Dube-Davission who looked good as a junior pair, and Zhang & Zhang whom I strongly dislike.
I love Tatiana Volosozhar, but with her current partner she has no hope of winning even a world medal.
